International elephant race 2012 starts

The 9th International Elephant Race  has kicked off at Sauraha, as a part of  Chitwan Elephant festivals . Sauraha is the tourist hub for foreign and nepali visitor.A morning procession was held in Chitwan prior to the start of the elephant race. Over a dozen elephants and different cultural floats were part of the procession.Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha inaugurated the race, by lighting a lamp. The elephant festivals is organized in Sauraha every year at December. The main purpose of the festivals is saving Asian Elephants in Nepal, and increase the population of elephants with good health and proper training for carrying tourists, provide rescue and difficult transport services in the deep jungle

Pokhara Street Festivals lakeside

The 14th Pokhara Street Festival is going to be organised from December 28- January 1 in Pokhara to mark the English New Year 2013. Celebrating New Year’s Eve at Lakeside has been a classic way to welcome the new year in Pokhara.  Restaurant and Bar Association of Nepal (REBAN), is the organizer of the event. The Restaurant and Bar Association (Reban) Pokhara, in a bid to make the New Year celebration a grand occasion, has given continuity to its trademark street festival 13 times in a row. The coming is 14th. The festival will be organised from Fishtail Gate to Lakeside, Gaurighat, Barahi Chowk, Democracy Chok, and Patan Lakeside in Pokhara. The theme of event  is "Eat on Street, Dance on Street and Enjoy on Street" .  Organisers are expecting 600,000 people at the festival. Last year , there were a similar number of visitor. The festival will have around 150 stalls and restaurants will set up eateries on the road. During  festivals, there will be dance shows of various culture, tourist marathon, and musical concert by national and other artists.

Wild life in Nepal


In Nepal there is a wide variety of beautiful animals. Visitors comes here  for jungle safari or for trekking to experience natural adventure. There is different option for you in Nepal if you do not enjoy trekking, you can go for jungle safari  to see a variety of wildlife.
Some of the endangered wildlife in Nepal are somewhat restricted to certain areas. Nepal's wildlife should always be treated with the utmost respect, remembering that these creatures are not only valuable to the environment but wild and sometimes dangerous.
In Terai you will find tigers, leopards, gaurs (wild ox), elephants, buffalo and a variety of deer. The deer commonly found here are chital, sambar and swamp deer. If you journey to south-central Nepal, you must spend time in the Lesser Rapti Valley. This is one of the last homes of the great Indian rhinoceros which is one of the countries endangered species.
Despite forest clearing which has taken place in the central zone, you will still find a few wild animals living here. These include leopards and a variety of small carnivores. This is also the home of a small kind of barking deer known as 'muntjacs'. If you head up even higher, you will find musk deer, tahr (beardless wild goat), goral (a relative of the rocky mountain goat) and wild sheep. If you are lucky, you may spot a wolf or a snow leopard. The Sherpa claim that the higher snowy regions are inhabited by the Yeti but don't expect to see him during your visit. The most common birds in the region are pheasant and the most popular fish is the mahseer, which can be used for food.
Clearly, Nepal is home to a stunning variety of creatures both big and small. You may find that you will not be able to view many of these creatures in their natural habitat anywhere else in the world and the experience of witnessing them in the wild can be truly memorable. Make an effort to see some of Nepal's wildlife when you're in the country – it's an opportunity that should not be missed!

Kathmandu Nepal

Kathmandu city, capital of Nepal, in the central part of the country. Also called Katmandu, the city is situated in a fertile lowland  in the southern Himalayas, at an altitude of about 1220 m (about 4000 ft), near the confluence of the Baghmati and Vishnumati rivers. It is the mountain kingdom's largest city and its chief economic, administrative, and cultural center. A highway extends north to Lhasa, in Tibet, and another road links Kathmandu with Raxaul, a rail center in India. Points of interest in Kathmandu include the elaborate royal palace and the white-domed Bodhnath Stupa, a shrine revered by Tibetan Buddhists. Just west of the city is Swayambhunath Temple, also an important Buddhist site. The city is the site of Tribhuvan University (1959) and the National Museum of Nepal.
Kathmandu was founded in 723 and was ruled for centuries by the Newar people. It was captured in 1768 by the Shah dynasty and became their capital. From 1846 to 1951 the powerful Rana family ruled Nepal from here as hereditary prime ministers. The city was badly damaged in 1934 by an earthquake. Population (2003 estimate) 741,000.

Bardiya National Park:
Bardiya National Park is the largest national park in the lowland Terai region covering some 968 sq.km and situated in the south western Nepal near to Karnali river valley. Initially the area was established and protected as Royal Hunting Reserve in 1967, later on it was gazetted as Royal Karnali Wildlife Reserve and finally declared as Royal Bardiya National Park on 1988.

Bardiya National Park is reputed for its abundant biodiversity and varied vegetation. The park is covered with dense forest, riverine forest, and grassland; provides excellent habitat for endangered animals like Rhinoceros, wild Elephant, Bengal Tiger, Swamp deer, Black Buck, Gharial Crocodile and Dolphins. The National Park provides a wonderful wilderness experience. Unique flora-fauna, landscape, vegetations and indigenous culture of Buffer Zone communities are great attraction for the visitors. Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve:
Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve is just about 45 minute flight and 2 hours drive away in the eastern Terai. A renowned birdwatchers paradise and wildlife refuge, Koshi Tappu spreads over 175 kilometers in Saptari and Sunsari district on the embankment of Sapta Koshi River. The wetland site was established as a wildlife reserve specially to preserve the habitat of wild Buffalo and hundreds of migratory as well as local species of birds. The reserve is also home to the Deer, Nilgai, Mugger crocodile, Ganges River Dolphin and other noted animals. Tourism in Nepal

In Nepal Tourism is the largest industry , and the largest source of foreign exchange and revenue. Consisting 8 of the 10 highest mountains in the world, Nepal is a hotspot destination for mountaineers, rock climbers and people seeking adventures.
