Wildlife Safari in Nepal

Nepal is a himalayan country which have different Culture and Natural diversity. However we say this is not all about Nepal. There are still lots of resource, which make Nepal affluent and wonderful place.
Wildlife Safari is one of the main attractions of Nepal. It has several national parks and wildlife reserves most of which have dense tropical Jungle teeming with diverse wildlife and birds. Jungle Safari is the fourth most popular tourism activities in Nepal after Trekking, Climbing and Tour.
Jungle Safari is an outdoor activity into the wilderness to see the wild animals, birds and natural diversity. We have more than 800 species of birds which is more than the combined number of USA and Canada. Our national parks are home to the some of famous and endangered animals such as Royal Bengal tiger, one horned rhinoceros, wild elephant, wild boars, deers, crocodiles and many more. Chitwan National park is very popular among the visitors while Bardia and Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve are widely regarded as best place for nature observation.

Chitwan National Park
Chitwan National Park is a successful example of nature conservation in South Asia. It is the first National Park of Nepal established in 1973 to preserve the unique feature of eco system significantly valuable for the whole world. The Park declared as UNESCO world heritage site, covering the well protected area of 932 Sq. Km. situated in the central southern low land bordering to India in the south. Just about 5 hours of drive or 20 minutes flight from Kathamndu, it is easily accessible and home to over 50 specious of Mammals, 55 species of amphibians and reptiles and more than 450 species of birds. The great one-horned Rhino, Royal Bengal Tiger, Spotted Leopard, wild Bison, many kind of Monkey, Sloth Bear, different species of Crocodile and Gigantic Dolphin makes their home in the National Park. The small pond, Lakes and wetland inside the National park helps to make a best home for many different wildlife. Quite a good number of Lodges & Camps inside and on periphery of the park offers a great holiday experience

Bardiya National Park:
Bardiya National Park is the largest national park in the lowland Terai region covering some 968 sq.km and situated in the south western Nepal near to Karnali river valley. Initially the area was established and protected as Royal Hunting Reserve in 1967, later on it was gazetted as Royal Karnali Wildlife Reserve and finally declared as Royal Bardiya National Park on 1988.

Bardiya National Park is reputed for its abundant biodiversity and varied vegetation. The park is covered with dense forest, riverine forest, and grassland; provides excellent habitat for endangered animals like Rhinoceros, wild Elephant, Bengal Tiger, Swamp deer, Black Buck, Gharial Crocodile and Dolphins. More than 200 species of birds, Snakes and many other mammals also make their habitat.

The National Park provides a wonderful wilderness experience. Unique flora-fauna, landscape, vegetations and indigenous culture of Buffer Zone communities are great attraction for the visitors. A trip to the park would be more excellent with the combination with a trek to Dolpo or Rara lake region or a short Rafting trip down to Karnali River.

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve:
Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve is just about 45 minute flight and 2 hours drive away in the eastern Terai. A renowned birdwatchers paradise and wildlife refuge, Koshi Tappu spreads over 175 kilometers in Saptari and Sunsari district on the embankment of Sapta Koshi River. The wetland site was established as a wildlife reserve specially to preserve the habitat of wild Buffalo and hundreds of migratory as well as local species of birds. The reserve is also home to the Deer, Nilgai, Mugger crocodile, Ganges River Dolphin and other noted animals. The vast expanses of water created by the Koshi barrage, marshes, lagoons, mud flats and arable land that lies around it offers an outstanding wetland which has favored to create one of the best and finest bird watching sanctuaries in Asia.

Best time to visit:
The best time to visit this fabulous wildlife reserve is between October to March when much of the migratory and local bird, reptiles, flora & fauna can be sighted in and around the barrage and riverbank.
The best birds in Koshi Tappu: Swamp Francolin, Black-necked stock, Lesser Adjutant, Comb Duck, Falcated Duck, Spot-billed Duck, Cotton Pigmy Goose, Bear’s Pochard, Bailon’s Crake, Ruddy Crake, Greater Painted Snipe, Pheasant-tailed Jacana, Yellow-wattled Lapwing, Indian courser, Black-bellied Tern, Imperial Eagle, White-tailed Eagle, Lesser Kestrel, Bristle Grassbird etc
